In my video, I share my sustainable laundry routine, which includes caring for a family of four and running just two loads of laundry per week. My husband also does his own laundry and takes care of bed sheets and towels separately.

Why You Should Wash Your Clothes Less: A Sustainable Approach

Are you washing your clothes too often? It’s a common practice, but one we may need to reconsider for the sake of our clothing and the environment. In my latest YouTube video, "Wash Less," I share some simple yet impactful ways to reduce how often you wash your clothes without compromising cleanliness.

Let's explore some key points from the video:

The Problem with Over-Washing

Washing clothes frequently can damage the fibers, causing the material to break down more quickly and making your clothing look worn. It can also release microplastics into our waterways, which is harmful to aquatic life and the environment.

Reduce Washing Frequency

Jeans and Sweaters
Jeans and sweaters don’t need to be washed as often as you might think. You can wear them up to 10 times between washes, as long as they don’t smell bad.

Spot Clean
For minor stains or spots, try spot cleaning your clothes instead of throwing them in the wash. This allows you to extend the wear without unnecessary washing.

Freshen Up
After a day out, consider freshening up your clothes by hanging them outside. The sun acts as a natural disinfectant, keeping your clothes smelling fresh.

Washing Tips

1. Wash Full Loads
Washing smaller loads uses nearly the same energy as larger loads. Aim to wash bigger loads to save energy and water.

2. Choose Eco-Friendly Detergent
Consider using eco-friendly laundry strips or buying liquid detergent in bulk and using less of the product.

3. Invest in a High-Efficiency Washer and Dryer
High-efficiency washers and dryers use less water and energy, making them a great investment for your wallet and the planet.

4. Skip Fabric Softeners
Fabric softeners can contain harmful chemicals for aquatic life. Opt for wool dryer balls instead; they help clothes dry faster.

Drying Methods

Air Dry
I prefer to air dry my clothes to avoid shrinkage and reduce energy consumption. It also helps prolong the life of my clothes.

Appliance Maintenance

Finally, keep your washing machine and dryer in good working condition. This ensures they operate efficiently and last longer.

After every load make sure to clean the lint filter it will make your machine last longer and work more efficiently saving energy and time.

These are just a few tips to get you started on your own sustainable laundry journey. By making small changes to your routine, you can have a big impact on the environment.

I hope you found these tips helpful. Let me know about your sustainable laundry routine in the comments—I’d love to hear from you!

Until next time, let’s keep being friendly to the planet!
