Lazy Satini Pomme d’Amour
March 12th marks Mauritius Independence Day, a celebration of freedom and cultural richness! 🇲🇺 One of my favorite ways to celebrate is through food, and today, I’m sharing my lazy version of satini pomme d’amour—a classic Mauritian tomato chutney that reminds me of a raw salsa.
Normally, my mom finely chops everything by hand, but my tomatoes were tiny, and let’s be real—I took the easy route with a food processor. The result? Just as delicious and packed with fresh, vibrant flavors!
What is Satini Pomme d’Amour?
This simple yet flavorful tomato chutney is a staple in Mauritian cuisine. It’s often paired with rice, lentils, curries, or eaten as a dip with bread. It has a fresh, tangy, and slightly spicy kick that makes it so addictive!
My Lazy Satini Recipe
💡 Tip: If you want a chunkier texture, pulse the ingredients in the food processor instead of blending!
Ingredients:
🍅 3 cups chopped tomatoes (I used baby ones!)
🧅 1 onion
🌿 1 bunch of green onions
🌶 1 chili, sliced (adjust to taste)
🥄 A splash of kombucha or vinegar
🫒 Olive oil, salt & pepper to taste
Instructions:
1️⃣ If using a food processor, roughly chop the onion and green onions before adding them in.
2️⃣ Toss in the chopped tomatoes, chili, and a splash of kombucha or vinegar for some tang.
3️⃣ Pulse until you reach your desired texture—chunky or smooth.
4️⃣ Drizzle with olive oil, season with salt and pepper, and give it a final mix.
5️⃣ Serve fresh with bread, rice, or as a side to your favorite meal! 🍽️
