La Case aux Nouilles
A few weeks ago, I was chatting with my long-lost cousin Cedric when he told me about a new Mauritian restaurant on the South Shore of Montreal in Longueuil, Quebec. He raved about how good the food was and even claimed it was one of the best authentic Mauritian spots in the city. Naturally, as fellow content creators, we couldn’t resist the opportunity to check it out and share the experience with you all—so come along with us as we dive into the flavors of Mauritius!
A Taste of Mauritius in the Heart of Longueuil
From the moment we stepped inside La Case aux Nouilles, it instantly transported us to Mauritius. The setup had the cozy, casual feel of a Mauritian “snack bar,” a popular dining style back home. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, setting the perfect tone for a nostalgic meal.
The owner, Guillaume, greeted us with such kindness that it felt like we had known him for years. Cedric mentioned that in Mauritius, this kind of warmth and friendliness is common—after all, it’s a small island where hospitality is second nature.
The Story Behind La Case aux Nouilles
Interviewing the owner
I was lucky enough to sit down with Guillaume and hear his incredible story. He moved to Canada during the pandemic, a challenging time for anyone, but he pursued his dream of opening a restaurant despite the obstacles. His passion for sharing Mauritian cuisine with the community was truly inspiring, and he even has big plans to expand in the future.
Watching the Magic Happen
One of the highlights of our visit was getting a behind-the-scenes look in the kitchen. Everything is made fresh, and you can really taste the difference. We got to try:
Mine Frite
🍜 Mine Frite – A childhood favorite of mine, these stir-fried noodles were chewy, flavorful, and comforting.
🍜 Mine Bouilli – Another classic noodle dish, packed with rich, savory flavors, and a rougaille sauce, a Mauritian version of spagetti sauce.
🥣 Haleem Soup – This was my first time trying this dish, and I was blown away by the blend of spices. It was warm, hearty, and perfect for a chilly day.
Haleem Soup
Every bite transported me back to the flavors of my childhood, and I couldn’t get enough of the fresh, homemade noodles.
A Must-Try Spot for Mauritian Food Lovers
If you’re in the Montreal area (or planning to visit), La Case aux Nouilles is a must-try. The food, the atmosphere, and Guillaume’s passion for Mauritian cuisine make this restaurant a true hidden gem. I highly recommend stopping by for an authentic taste of Mauritius—you won’t be disappointed!
