DIY Mineral Foundation Powder

As an actress and content creator I’m always on camera and don’t like to have shiny skin. I make my own foundation powder because it is cheap and fun to make.

Making my own foundation powder allows me to customize the shade and coverage to meet my specific needs. Here are the ingredients you need.

  • Arrowroot Powder

  • Cocoa Powder

  • Cinnamon Powder

  • Synthetic Mica Powder (optional)

Arrowroot powder is a natural starch that is extracted from the rhizomes of several tropical plants. It has been used for centuries in traditional medicine to treat various skin conditions, including rashes, burns, and wounds. Here are some of the benefits of arrowroot powder for the skin:

  1. Soothes skin irritation: Arrowroot powder has anti-inflammatory properties that help to soothe skin irritation and reduce redness. It can be applied topically to calm down the skin and reduce the appearance of blemishes.

  2. Absorbs excess oil: Arrowroot powder has natural absorbent properties that can help to control excess oil production in the skin. It can be used as a natural alternative to talcum powder to keep the skin dry and oil-free.

  3. Softens and smoothens the skin: Arrowroot powder is rich in nutrients like vitamin B, iron, and potassium, which help to nourish the skin and promote healthy skin cell growth. It can be used as an exfoliator to remove dead skin cells and reveal softer, smoother skin.

  4. Reduces the appearance of wrinkles: Arrowroot powder contains antioxidants that help to neutralize free radicals and prevent oxidative damage to the skin. This can reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, leaving the skin looking younger and more radiant.

  5. Helps to heal wounds: Arrowroot powder has been used for centuries as a natural remedy to help heal wounds and promote skin regeneration. It can be applied topically to help speed up the healing process and reduce scarring.

Overall, arrowroot powder can be a beneficial ingredient for those looking for a natural way to care for their skin. However, it is important to note that more research is needed to fully understand the potential benefits and risks of using arrowroot powder for skincare. It is always best to consult with a healthcare professional before using any new skincare products.

Cocoa powder contains several beneficial compounds for the skin. Here are some potential benefits of using cocoa powder for the skin:

  1. Antioxidant properties: Cocoa powder is rich in antioxidants such as flavonoids, which can help protect the skin from damage caused by free radicals.

  2. Moisturizing: Cocoa powder contains natural oils, which can help to moisturize the skin and prevent dryness.

  3. Anti-inflammatory: The anti-inflammatory properties of cocoa powder can help to soothe irritated skin and reduce redness and swelling.

  4. Anti-aging: Cocoa powder contains compounds that may help to promote collagen production, which can help to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

  5. Brightening: The caffeine content in cocoa powder can help to brighten the skin and reduce the appearance of dark circles under the eyes.

  6. Acne-fighting: Cocoa powder has antibacterial properties that can help to fight acne-causing bacteria and prevent breakouts.

Cinnamon is a spice that has been used for centuries for its medicinal properties. When it comes to the skin, cinnamon has several benefits, including:

  1. Anti-inflammatory: Cinnamon contains anti-inflammatory properties that can help reduce inflammation and redness in the skin.

  2. Anti-bacterial: Cinnamon has natural anti-bacterial properties that can help to fight against acne-causing bacteria.

  3. Anti-oxidant: Cinnamon is rich in antioxidants, which can help to protect the skin from damage caused by free radicals.

  4. Plumping: Cinnamon can also help to plump the skin and improve its elasticity, which can help to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

  5. Hydrating: Cinnamon can help to hydrate the skin and lock in moisture, which can help to prevent dryness and flakiness.

It is important to note that cinnamon can be irritating to some people, so it is important to do a patch test before using it on your skin.

Synthetic Mica for Environmental and Humanitarian Reasons

Environmental impact: Natural mica mining can have significant environmental impacts, including deforestation, soil erosion, and water pollution. In contrast, synthetic mica production can be more environmentally friendly, using fewer resources and producing less waste.

  1. Worker safety: Natural mica mining can also be dangerous for workers, who may be exposed to hazardous conditions and chemicals. Synthetic mica production is generally safer for workers, as it can be done in controlled laboratory conditions.

  2. Ethical concerns: Natural mica mining has been associated with child labor and other unethical practices in some regions, particularly in India. Synthetic mica production does not have the same ethical concerns, as it is produced using modern manufacturing processes and does not rely on manual labor.

  3. Consistency and quality: Synthetic mica production allows for greater consistency and quality control, ensuring that the product meets certain safety and performance standards.

Overall, synthetic mica can be considered a more sustainable and ethical alternative to natural mica, with fewer environmental and social impacts, and greater consistency and quality.

Synthetic mica is often considered better than natural mica because it offers a number of advantages in terms of purity, consistency, and durability.

Firstly, synthetic mica is produced under controlled conditions in a laboratory, which means that its properties can be precisely controlled and tailored to specific applications. This is in contrast to natural mica, which can vary in composition and quality depending on where it was mined and how it was processed.

Secondly, synthetic mica is typically purer than natural mica, with fewer impurities and defects. This can make it more effective for applications such as insulation, where even small impurities can affect performance.

Finally, synthetic mica is generally more durable than natural mica, with better resistance to heat, chemicals, and abrasion. This makes it more suitable for use in high-performance applications such as electronics and aerospace, where reliability and longevity are critical.

Overall, synthetic mica offers a number of advantages over natural mica, making it a popular choice for a wide range of industrial and commercial applications.

Directions: There is no specific measurements. Mix the ingredients together to get your shade. I love making it because my skin tone is darker in the summertime and I can adjust it myself at home.

Arrowroot Power: Acts at the base.

Cocoa Powder: Darkens and adds color.

Cinnamon Powder: Gives it a nice scent and has great skin benefits. It is recommended to add a small amount. If you have sensitive skin it is best to leave it out.

Synthetic Mica Powder: Gives the skin a nice glow and reflects light beautifully.

Have fun making your own foundation powder! It gives my skin a nice blur effect :)
